Associate: Institute for Political Studies of Defense and Military History, Bucharest
Established in 1969 and reorganized in 1998, the Institute is functioning within the Ministry of National Defense as a center for research in the fields of national security, defense policy, and military history. It is subordinated to the Secretary for Defense Policy and its activities are coordinated by the Administration Council and Scientific Council. They include research programs concerning both contemporary subjects (European and Euro-Atlantic security institutions, regional security, Romanian national security policy, defense policies in Europe) and historical dimensions of defense policy, Romania's military relations with other countries, and the role of the army in society.
The Institute is a member of the Partnership for Peace Consortium of Defense Academies and Security Studies Institutes, organizes conferences, symposia and seminars, and sponsors the publication of books in Romanian and English.
