Vojtech Mastny is Senior Research Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and Senior Fellow at the National Security Archive, both in Washington D.C. He has been Professor of History and International Relations at Columbia University, the University of Illinois, Boston University, and the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. He was also Professor of Strategy at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport and Fulbright professor at the University of Bonn. In 1996-98, he was the first Manfred Wörner Fellow of NATO.

His books include The Helsinki Process and the Reintegration of Europe, The Czechs Under Nazi Rule, Russia´s Road to the Cold War, praised by The Economist as having "transcended the simplicities of both the 'cold war' and the 'revisionist' versions to produce a convincingly complex picture," and most recently, The Cold War and Soviet Insecurity, the winner of the American Historical Association's 1997 George L. Beer Prize.
