Associate: Institute of Political Studies, Warsaw
Founded in 1990 as a new component of the reorganized Polish Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Political Studies in Warsaw focuses on problems of postcommunist societies. Under the research direction of Professor Andrzej Paczkowski, it sponsors theoretical and empirical studies using interdisciplinary and comparative approaches. Besides recent history, its research units include security studies, political theory, and sociology.
Among the Institute's publications are the quarterly Studia polityczne (with abstracts in English), a Polish-German yearbook, and a yearbook on East Central Europe.
