Notes by SG/PA (Joachim Jaenicke) on APAG, Committees of Experts from Capitals and POLADS (DPA(67)169)20 Jul 1967 |
||
Description:
In these notes, Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs Joachim Jaenicke provides the rapporteur of Sub-Group 4, C. L. Patijn, with information on existing political consultative bodies within NATO, namely the Atlantic Policy Advisory Group (APAG), the Committee of Experts from Capitals, and the Committee of Political Advisors (POLADS). Jaenicke views NATO as an international rather than a supra-national organization, and states his conviction that it is precisely the reluctance of the public and the governments of the alliance to break the barrier to supra-nationality that prevents it from coordinating its foreign policies, not only with regard to developing countries, but even with regard to East-West relations.
