Description:
This document presents background details about the US debate on the ratification of the INF Treaty and on other questions related to the disarmament negotiations between the Soviet Union and the US. It was prepared by the East German Stasi (Staatssicherheit) intelligence agency. The paper summarizes the discussions in the US Senate and Congress as well as in other state and non-governmental institutions. Further attention is given to the discussion on nuclear deterrence after disarmament and on the nature of international politics in the 1990s.
