Resolution on Future Tasks of the Alliance (GAS(67)7)3 Jan 1967 |
||
Description:
This document analyzes the Belgian proposal on the future tasks of NATO in terms of the relationship between the North American and European NATO member states. The focus of this document is on the potential danger that US commitments outside the North Atlantic Treaty Area constitute for the peacefully achieved developments in the NATO area and for the nuclear stalemate between the Soviet bloc and NATO. The author argues that in spite of the European desire to keep the US in the alliance, the Europeans are also exploring measures for restraining US commitments. Collection: Harmel Report
