Netherlands Delegation Enclosing Draft Report by the Rapporteur of Sub-Group 4 (C.L. Patijn) (F9525/67)

31 Aug 1967
Description: This draft report submitted by the Dutch delegation outlines the role of NATO in world affairs, discusses the categories of problems that could affect the interests of the alliance, and submits proposals for improving the political consultation among member states. The author of the report and rapporteur of Sub-Group 4, C. L. Patijn, states that nothing short of a foreign policy conceived in global terms and planned over a long period will safeguard the stability of NATO members. He also argues that in their relations with developing countries, the NATO members should clearly strive for more than anti-Communism, and advocates a common political strategy, which requires in-depth study and consultation in two fields: racial relations and economic development.
