Report on the Meeting of the Deputy Foreign Ministers Preparing the Stockholm Conference on 3-4 May 1984 in Warsaw

10 May 1984
Description: This report on the May 1984 meeting of the deputy foreign ministers in Warsaw provides an assessment of the first round of the Conference on Disarmament in Europe (CDE) in Stockholm and examines questions related to the next (8 May) session. Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Stefan Olszowski concludes that despite the calm and constructive atmosphere of the meeting, it has still proven impossible to follow up the speeches of the delegates with a joint summary acceptable to all. He argues that the consultations have sent an important message to the outside world, but have contributed nothing toward an atmosphere of cooperation, which is in such short supply in Stockholm.
