Description:
This document examines details about the development of and further planning for the forces assigned to NATO by the US Air Force. It was prepared by the East German Stasi (Staatssicherheit) intelligence agency. The paper states that the US presence in Europe is of major importance for Washington, as reflected by the large number of US military aircraft stationed in Europe. The US Air Force elements in Europe are equipped with modern military technology, and training is constantly improved. Tables listing details on US contingents to NATO, as well as on forces located in Europe but not assigned to NATO, can be found in the annex.
