The Soviet-Albanian Dispute: Reply by Albanian Premier Mehmet Shehu to the Political Consultative Committee

5 Apr 1961
Description: This document is a message by Albanian Prime Minister Mehmet Shehu to all Warsaw Pact (WP) countries as well as China, North Korea, Vietnam, and Mongolia. In his address, Shehu argues that the hostile stance adopted towards Albania is based on false and one-sided premises. He states that in reality, the cause of the conflict lies in a conspiracy by Greece, Yugoslavia, and the US to attack Albania. Shehu admits that such a conspiracy has been discovered, but says it has been successfully averted. Furthermore, he affirms that despite WP opposition against Albania in this matter, the country will remain faithful to the theory and practice of Socialism.
