Communiqué

6 Apr 1983
Description: This is a communiqué issued at the 1983 meeting of the Warsaw Pact's Committee of Ministers of Foreign Affairs (CMFA) in Prague. The Warsaw Pact foreign ministers express their will to continue with disarmament efforts and to impede US plans to deploy new missiles on the European continent. They further state that the proposal to prohibit chemical weapons in Europe has raised a lot of interest in Western Europe. The ministers also propose the establishment of a nuclear-free zone in Northern Europe and the Balkans. At the end of the communiqué, they offer a positive assessment of the prospects for a final document to be signed at the upcoming CSCE conference in Madrid.
