Report on the Meeting of the Deputy Foreign Ministers

Description: According to this report, the main objective of the 1983 meeting of the deputy foreign ministers in Bucharest was to discuss issues pertaining to the upcoming Madrid conference, part of the Conference for Cooperations and Security in Europe (CSCE) process. The Soviet Union asserted its position on the principle of equal status and equal security. The participants agreed on the need to reject unilateral concessions and to achieve a swift and succesful conclusion of the Madrid conference.
