A Cold War Conundrum1997 |
||
Description:
This analysis presents the causes and development of the so-called Soviet war scare in the early 1980s. The study analyzes the Soviet position in the Cold War, shows how individual steps taken by the US administration and military raised the level of Soviet concern, and discusses historical backgrounds of the Soviet security sensibility. Much attention is devoted to the Soviet intelligence collection program RYaN. The paper concludes that the Soviets' fear of war was real and not only propaganda.
