Soviet Statement (State and Development of NATO's Armed Forces)

3 Dec 1984
Description: This is a presentation on the state and development of NATO's armed forces in the Western and Southwestern theaters of war until 1990. Sergei Akhromeev, the chief of staff of the Soviet armed forces, gave the presentation at the 17th session of the Warsaw Pact (WP) Committee of Ministers of Defense in Budapest in 1984. Given NATO's continuous armament process, Akhromeev emphasizes the importance of enhancing the combat readiness of the United Armed Forces. The WP countries should raise their defense budgets, even if this means neglecting other sectors, such as the economy.
