Letter from the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs (Lyuben Gotsev) to the First Deputy Minister of Defense and Chief of the General Staff of the PRB (Atanas Semerdjiev)

Description: In this letter, Bulgarian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Lyuben Gotsev requests information from First Deputy Minister of Defense Atanas Semerdjiev about the political-military situation on NATO's southern flank in order to prepare the Bulgarian delegation for the forthcoming meeting of the Warsaw Pact Committee of Ministers of Foreign Affairs (CMFA). The information needed includes: (i) military correlation of forces in the region, (ii) plans for compensating for the removal of US tactical missiles, (iii) possible improvements of the relations between Greece and Turkey, and (iv) prospects for the development of NATO's and US basing strategy.
