Report on the Third Session of the WP Committee of Defense Ministers

Description: This report from the East German minister of defense, Heinz Hoffmann, informs East German leader Erich Honecker about discussions at, and results of, the third session of the Warsaw Pact (WP) Committee of Defense Ministers (CDM) in Budapest in 1971. The CDM discussed the state of the communication and command systems, as well as the WP's force planning from 1971-75. Annexed is a transcript of a report by the Soviet Minister of Defense Andrei Grechko in which he addresses the formal, unconstructive work of the CDM and Soviet deficits in terms of conventional warfare capabilities.
