Marshal Ivan Konev's Analysis of a Czechoslovak Army Operational Exercise

Description: This report by the supreme commander of the United Armed Forces, Ivan Konev, analyzes an operative wargaming exercise conducted by the Czechoslovak army in March-April 1959. With the participating forces organized into two groups, in the East and in the West, the aim of this exercise is to study the character of military action in the initial stages of a nuclear confrontation. Konev expresses satisfaction with the results of the exercise and emphasizes the importance of cooperation between Soviet and Warsaw Pact armies in defending the alliance's western borders.
