Description: This is a transcript of the first part of Australia's ABC Radio broadcast on the history of the Cold War with a special focus on the Soviet war scare in 1983. The program briefly reviews the historical background of the Cold War and discusses the policies of the Reagan administration. Special attention is paid to interrelations between US policies, Soviet perceptions and the development of strong peace movements in Europe and particularly in West Germany.
