Establishment of an Integrated Nuclear Strike Early Warning System by the Warsaw Pact Member States (Summary)

Description: This is a summary of a report on the establishment of an integrated early warning system for nuclear strikes against the Warsaw Pact (WP). Soviet Deputy Defense Minister Vladimir Pikalov gives the report during the twelfth session of the WP Committee of Defense Ministers in Warsaw 1979. Pikalov discusses necessary features of such an early warning system, including its aims, function, and organization. An integrated early warning system is crucial for allowing the military and political leadership to make the necessary decisions after a nuclear strike.
