Proposal for the Construction of Fortifications on the Country's Southern Border

8 Nov 1950
Description: This proposal discusses different possibilities for the construction of fortifications on Hungary's southern and southwestern borders. It examines the costs and material requirements for building such a system of bunkers and fortifications along an expected 230-kilometer frontline. The author of the proposal is Lieutenant-General István Bata, Chief of the Hungarian General Staff. The suggested measures are based on fears of an attack by Yugoslavia on Hungary. However, according to a note at the end of the paper, the minister of defense rejected the proposal to build permanent structures and opted for field fortifications.
