conducted by Karel Sieber, 23 September 2003

23 Sep 2003
Description: This is a transcript of an interview with Czechoslovak General František Šádek (b. 1921), commander of the 4th Army, deputy minister of defense, and commander of the Western Military District in the 1960s. General Šádek comments on developments in the Czechoslovak armed forces in the 1950s and 1960s and the use of nuclear weapons. He confirms the authenticity of the Czechoslovak Operations Plan 1964 and the fact that it contains the secondary advance line in direction towards the Sarre region and France. He explains that both NATO and the Warsaw Pact were aware of their respective opponents' troop strength, deployment, and equipment.
