Opinion of East Germany

1 Dec 1980
Description: This is an East German contribution regarding the infrastructural preparedness of NATO and the Warsaw Pact (WP). East German Defense Minister Heinz Hoffmann presented it during the 13th session of the WP's Committee of Defense Ministers in Bucharest in1980. Hoffmann reviews steps by NATO and West Germany to strengthen their military infrastructure, and concludes that a high level of readiness has been achieved. With respect to East Germany, Hoffmann says that the existing transport network is in principle sufficient. Nevertheless, numerous improvements, such as the erection of new bridges and the expansion of stocks, are undertaken.
