Report on Bilateral Consultations between Fritz Streletz (East German Deputy Defense Minister) and a Soviet Representative on 7 December 1988 in Preparation for the 23rd CMD Meeting

Description: This is a report to East German head of state Erich Honecker on the results of a preparatory meeting ahead of the 23rd session of the Warsaw Pact's (WP) Committee of Ministers of Defense (CMD) in Sofia in 1988. The Soviet Union has informed East Germany about plans to reduce and restructure its armed forces, as well as about the publication of detailed information on the respective force levels and military capabilities of NATO and the WP. Attached is a map depicting force reductions in East Germany and a table with details on the East German armed forces.
