Appendix 3 to the Report: Summary of Dmitri Iazov's (Soviet Minister of Defense) Statement on the Second Agenda Item

Description: This summary presents the salient points of a report by Soviet Minister of Defense Dmitri Iazov on the state and development of the Warsaw Pact's (WP) armed forces. The report was given at the 21st session of the WP Committee of Ministers of Defense (CMD) in Moscow in 1988. Iazov concludes that NATO is still pursuing a policy of strength. Accordingly, he speaks in favor of strengthening the WP's armed forces and stresses the importance of the military. Iazov highlights the importance of strategic parity and briefly summarizes plans for the Soviet armed forces.
