State and Development of NATO's Armed Forces and Preparation in the Theaters of War (Presentation)

7 Jan 1975
Description: This is a report on the state and development of NATO's armed forces, delivered by the East German chief of staff, General Fritz Streletz. He presented this report during the seventh session of the Warsaw Pact Committee of Defense Ministers (CDM). Despite the present détente, NATO is depicted as a major threat that is pursuing an aggressive policy. Streletz assesses the development of NATO from 1971-74 and discerns qualitative improvements, together with nearly unchanged quantitative parameters. He argues that the balance of power has shifted towards the Socialist countries.
