French Defense Policy and Military Forces

19 Aug 1976
Description: This document presents appraisals of the French military policy and its armed forces. It was prepared by the East German Stasi (Staatssicherheit) intelligence agency. The paper addresses different political opinions on military reforms, changes in the strategic concept of the French military, and trends in armament policy. The strategic concept was adapted to allow a faster development of the conventional armed forces. With respect to the internal workings of the French army, political demands for an improved representation of conscripts' interests are discussed.
