Measures of the UAF with Respect to the New Peace Initiative Outlined in the Speech of Comrade L. I. Brezhnev in Berlin on 6 October 1979 (Summary)

3 Dec 1979
Description: This summary presents the main points of a report on Soviet peace and disarmament initiatives. The report was given during the 12th session of the Warsaw Pact's Committee of Defense Ministers (CDM) in Warsaw in 1979. Against the background of NATO's double-track decision, the Soviet leadership is willing to reduce its intermediate-range nuclear weapons that are deployed in the western part of the Soviet Union. The precondition is that the US not deploy any new intermediate-range nuclear weapons in Western Europe. The report reviews NATO's reaction on the proposal and its current military policy.
