Interview with Gen. Mjr. Ing. Zdeněk Štorek

Description: This is a transcript of an interview with Czechoslovak General Zdeněk Štorek (b. 1938), commander of the 10th Air Force in Hradec Králové from 1983-1986. He describes military training and expertise in the Czechoslovak air force, and the cooperation between the Czechoslovak and Soviet armies. He emphasizes that the use of nuclear weapons was no longer the focus of operational planning in the 1980s. He further mentions that NATO observers were accepted at Warsaw Pact exercises in Czechoslovakia in 1984 and speaks about violations of the Czechoslovak/West German border by the air forces of both countries. Finally, he explains the purpose of Soviet military advisors in the Czechoslovak armed forces.
