Combat Readiness of Active US Army Divisions

3 Mar 1975
Description: This document presents details from an US army ministry assessment of the defense readiness of active US army divisions. It was prepared by the East German Stasi (Staatssicherheit) intelligence agency. The paper concludes that the readiness of the volunteer army of 1975 is much better than that of the conscript army of 1972. This improvement resulted from reduced personnel fluctuation, longer service durations of officers and NCOs, and improved service readiness due to voluntary service. In addition, the paper examines the US army combat readiness evaluation scheme.
