Speech by Rainer Eppelmann (East German Minister of Defense and Disarmament) in Strausberg

Description: This is the transcript of a speech by East German Minister of Disarmament and Defense Rainer Eppelmann to the 25th session of the Warsaw Pact's (WP) Committee of Ministers of Defense (CMD) in East Berlin in 1990. Eppelmann critically reviews the history of the Cold War and the WP. He believes that both NATO and the WP will prevail until an integrated European security structure is established based on CSCE structures. Regarding the unification of Germany, he promises that the security concerns of Germany's neighbors will be taken into account. However, the unified Germany will become a member of NATO.
