Background Note on the Forthcoming Council Discussion on 22 February 1967 - Future Tasks of the Alliance (DPA(67)47)

21 Feb 1967
Description: This background note by NATO Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs Joachim Jaenicke states that some of the ideas put forth by the governments at the council meeting at 15 February 1967 are contradictory. Since he regards these contradictions as stimulating for the special group discussion, he advises against the attempt to harmonize these ideas in one consolidated paper. The document concludes with a proposal for the opening statement by NATO Secretary General Manlio Brosio at the council meeting the next day.
