The Soviet Military's Attempts to End the Polish Crisis: Letter from East German Defense Minister Heinz Hoffmann to Erich Honecker

Description: This is a letter from East German Minister of Defense Heinz Hoffmann to the general secretary of the East German Socialist Unity Party, Erich Honecker. Hoffmann reports on his conversation with the supreme commander of the Warsaw Pact's (WP) United Armed Forces, Viktor Kulikov, about the situation in Poland. According to Kulikov, the Polish Communist Party is not undertaking the necessary actions against the Solidarnosc trade union. He also addresses the fact that Poland has not yet agreed to participate in a planned military exercise of the WP naval forces.
