Breakdown of Target Strengths of the NVA

Description: This set of four documents details the authorized strength of the East German National People's Army (NVA) in peacetime. At the time of writing, the overall strength of the NVA stood at 88,286 troops. Yet, the NVA has 90,000 positions on paper, implying 1,714 vacancies. Additional information is provided on the staff of the NVA's military academy, officer schools, and other schools, in the ministry of defense, and in affiliated service structures and bodies. The last document is a short list of units to be dissolved.
