Czechoslovak Analysis of the "Soiuz 77" Exercise

21 Mar 1977
Description: This is a Czechoslovak report on the 1977 Warsaw Pact exercise "Soiuz 77". The scenario is based on the premise of a conventional NATO attack on Warsaw Pact (WP) territory from the west and south-west, ignoring Austria's neutrality. The attack is stopped by retaliatory strikes against nuclear facilities and command posts. The WP countries manage to launch a counterstrike and head west in two directions - towards Stuttgart and Nuremberg, and towards Munich and Vienna.
