Assessment of Adversary's Intelligence on Development of Warsaw Pact Forces 1983-1985

16 Dec 1985
Description: This document presents NATO's major intelligence results on the development of the Warsaw Pact's (WP) armed forces between 1983 and 1985. It was prepared by the East German Staatssicherheit (Stasi) intelligence agency. The document reviews all branches of the WP armed forces and its doctrine and strategy. NATO believes that the WP is qualitatively enhancing its military potential on a high technical level, and that this will continue in the future. Furthermore, the WP's war preparations have reached a high standard and will be improved further.
