Description:
This document records talks in Croatia over a period of two days between Nicolae Ceauşescu and Josip Tito. Ceauşescu narrates the ongoing mediation attempts by Romania aimed at ending the Vietnam War. He recounts recent negotiations with Averell Harriman about a possible cessation of the bombing campaign against North Vietnam in order to enable direct negotiations between the parties.
Both Ceauşescu and Tito mention the impeding effect of the Chinese posture on their mediation efforts. With respect to internal developments inside China, both agree that the future course of the cultural revolution and its effect on Chinese foreign relations is impossible to predict. During their talks, the two leaders also cover recent developments in the Middle East, the aftermath of the third Arab-Israeli war as well as recent negotiations between the U.A.R. and Saudi Arabia aimed at ending the war in Yemen.
