Report by the Supreme Commander of the Unified Armed Forces, Marshal Viktor Kulikov, at the PCC Conference of the Warsaw Pact States

On the Situation of the Unified Armed Forces and the Measures to be Taken to Ensure Their Combat Capability in View of the Ratio of Forces in Europe

29 May 1987
Description: In this report, the supreme commander of the Unified Armed Forces (UAF), Viktor Kulikov, argues that as long as the NATO bloc exists, the Warsaw Pact will have a decisive role in the defense of the Socialist bloc, which implies the need for improving the armed forces. Furthermore, he states that the maneuverability of ground troops has been increased, that the air forces are newly equipped, and that the navy fleets will be equipped with modern battleships, submarines, and coastal missiles. Finally, Kulikov refers to the production potential of the Warsaw Pact countries.
