||
Description:
This document reproduces high-level discussions in Moscow between a Romanian delegation led by Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej, First Secretary of the Romanian Workers' Party, and several members of the Soviet Politburo.
The discussion covers the domestic situation in Indonesia, the Sino-Indian border conflict, the GDR/Berlin question and the Cuban missile crisis.
Gheorghiu-Dej reports on the impressions on India and Indonesia gained during a recent state visit by him and Ion Gheorghe Maurer to both countries (as well as Burma). With respect to Nehru's position on the border conflict, Khrushchev criticizes the Indian Prime Minister for his latest move towards a 'reactionary' and nationalist position regarding the border. The Soviet Union supports direct talks between the Chinese and Indians. The Soviet leader also expresses his displeasure regarding the position of the Indian CP in this question and reports that measures had been undertaken in order to remedy the situation.
