Hungarian Report on the Warsaw Pact Political Consultative Committee Meeting of 19-20 January 1965

25 Jan 1965
Description: This Hungarian report addresses the January 1965 meeting of the Warsaw Pact's Political Consultative Committee (PCC), the purpose of which was to form a common standpoint on NATO's nuclear energy program. Among the issues discussed at the meeting are the US role in South Vietnam and French President Charles de Gaulle's opposition to the US. The report mentions Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev's assertion that the West is involved in local wars rather than preparing a world war. Brezhnev addresses the increasing pressure on Cuba and East Germany, and calls for mutual assistance within the Socialist camp. The report concludes with information on official bilateral talks between the Hungarian and Polish delegations.
