Shorthand Record of the Meeting of the Executive Bureau of the CC of the RCP on the Events in Poland

13 Dec 1981
Description: This shorthand record of a meeting of the Central Committee (CC) of the Romanian Communist Party (RCP) refers to the declaration of martial law in Poland. The members of the CC refer to the creation of a Military Council for National Salvation in Poland and to the reactionary role played by the Catholic Church. The election of a Polish pope is said to have stimulated the activities of Solidarity. According to Romanian leader Nicolae Ceauşescu, the Polish problem is an outcome of the disagreements between the US and the Soviet Union.
