Information Report

24 Apr 1978
Description: This is a report on the 1978 meeting of the Warsaw Pact's Committee of Ministers of Foreign Affairs (CMFA) in Sofia on disarmament and on the political situation in Europe. It summarizes the speeches of the individual foreign ministers. Apart from the Romanian foreign minister, all agree on the positive development of the European détente and disarmament process. The Romanian foreign minister also proposes a significant reduction of military budgets, troops, training, and exercises. In the end, the report indicates that Romania is using its divergent positions to strengthen its role in the international arena.
