Description: This note by UK Assistant Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs J. H. Adam Watson assesses the position of the non-Soviet states in Eastern Europe on increasing economic contacts with Western countries. It argues that these Eastern European governments aim at enhancing trade relations, strengthening technological cooperation, and opening up for Western investment.
