Comment on the "Nicholson Shooting Incident" of 1985 by Lawrence G. Kelley

30 Apr 2007
Description: This comment by retired US Colonel Lawrence G. Williams (United States Marine Corps - USMC), who served as the Naval Representative and acting Deputy Chief of United States Military Liaison Mission (USMLM) in the 1980s, sheds light on the 1985 shooting of US Army Major Arthur D. Nicholson. According to Williams, the Stasi’s internal documentation with regard to the shooting incident contains factual errors, since its personnel did not observe the shooting. At the same time, the author claims that the United States have not tried to cover up these events. In 2004, the United States European Command (USAREUR) has declassified the official account of this incident.
