Speech by the East German Head of State (Erich Honecker)

5 Jan 1983
Description: This is a transcript of a speech given by East German leader Erich Honecker at the 1983 Political Consultative Committee (PCC) meeting in Prague. He outlines the impact of US politics, especially on Socialist and developing countries, and states the importance of Socialist unity. He comments on the growing resistance to the arms race by pacifist groups in West Germany, the US, and France. Honecker believes that many US allies are dissatisfied by US economic policies, which amount to a "Crusade against Socialism" and are detrimental to other national economies.
