Description: This is a transcript of a conversation between the East German leader, Erich Honecker, and the president of the Indian National Congress (R), Dev Kant Baruah. In addition to discussing their respective domestic political and economic situations, the two discuss the international situation. Both express support for détente, with Baruah welcoming the Helsinki Final Act as an important contribution for peaceful coexistence. Baruah stresses continued Indian interest in close relations with the socialist countries. With respect to regional politics in South Asia, India is interested in solving all problems in a peaceful manner and in establishing good relations to all Indian Ocean littoral states.
