Description:
This is a transcript speech given by the general secretary of the Czechoslovak Communist Party, Gustáv Husák, at the 1976 Political Consultative Committee (PCC) meeting in Bucharest. He expresses full consent with the ongoing détente process in Europe, but also distrust towards Western European countries, which have not resigned of the first use of nuclear weapons. In this context, he warns of the negative implications for Socialist unity and holds that the Socialist countries should place their common interests first. He speaks in favor of economic cooperation with Western countries, especially in the fields of energy, transport, and the environment.
