Speech of the First Secretary of the PZPR (Edward Gierek)

Description: This is a transcript speech given by First Secretary Edward Gierek of the Polish Worker's Party at the 1976 Political Consultative Committee (PCC) meeting in Bucharest. He considers the Conference on Security and Peace in Europe (CSCE) to be a success stimulating the peace process in Europe. In this context, he lists the achievements of the European détente process so far and assesses the international political scene, especially mentioning China, with which he is ready to normalize political relations.
