Communiqué

5 Dec 1979
Description: This communiqué of the 1979 meeting of the Warsaw Pact's Committee of Ministers of Foreign Affairs (CMFA) in Berlin stresses the will of the Warsaw Pact states to promote military détente and disarmament. The participating foreign ministers stress the importance of signing the SALT II treaty. They also propose confidence-building measures on military exercises and troop movements for the forthcoming CSCE conference in Madrid. They further deplore NATO's plans to deploy intermediate-range nuclear weapons in Western Europe as an unfriendly act that threatens the détente process.
