State of NATO's Armed Forces (Presentation)

9 Feb 1972
Description: This is a report on the condition of NATO's armed forces by East German Minister of Defense Heinz Hoffmann. The report was presented during the fourth session of the Warsaw Pact Committee of Defense Ministers (CDM) in East Berlin in 1972. The document gives a broad assessment of the military-political situation in Europe, of the US and NATO armed forces deployed there, and of the economic and human potential of the NATO countries. The current political situation is assessed relatively positively because of détente. Nevertheless, NATO is depicted as constantly expanding its military potential and pursuing an aggressive policy.
