Letter from India's Ambassador to the Soviet Union (K.P.S. Menon) to the Indian Foreign Secretary (R.K. Nehru)

30 Apr 1954
Description: This letter explores the possibility of developing closer economic cooperation between India and the Soviet Union. Quoting a report from P.N. Kaul which cites changes in the USSR post-Stalin, Menon finds no serious ideological reasons to prevent India from seeking economic assistance from the Soviet Union. Regarding the possiblity of further cooperation stemming aid from Western countries, the ambassador reiterates the importance of India maintaining a policy of independence.
